March 2010

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Greetings in the name of our lord Jesus Christ.

The time has come for us to prepare for the 2010 conference which will
be taking place from 25 June to 30 June 2010. This is the 39th year.

Our planning for this year’s conference has not escaped all the hype
going around for the 2010 world cup soccer. We had booked an oversees
speaker but in the end had to defer his visit until 2011 as the airfares
from overseas had increased so much that we could not afford to have him
come this year. Our speaker for 2011 from Scotland has accordingly been
confirmed and so Duncan Campbell will be with us next year. The airfare
escalation within South Africa will also affect certain of our
prospective attendees and I have been informed by some of these that
normally fly from Cape Town that they will not be coming this year. This
factor may well affect others who normally fly from Gauteng. I appeal to
those who will be affected by the escalation in air ticket costs to
consider travel by road as an alternative this year. Take time out and
see a bit of South Africa on route to the conference.

As a result of this hiccup with our overseas speaker we had no
alternative but to present a conference this year with local speakers.
The Lord is sovereign and so we see His providential hand in these
developments.

Our two main speakers will be Karl Petersen and David De Bruin. The
theme for this year’s conference is “Worthy is the Lamb”

For your information I give a short background report of these two
brothers:-

David De Bruyn

*Born and raised in Johannesburg.
*Converted to Christ after hearing the gospel in a Baptist church in
Hillbrow.
* Joined and served in that church for 17 years.
* Trained as a radio broadcaster, and later as computer programmer,
worked in these fields for several years.
* Completed undergraduate theological training in South Africa
* Graduate studies through Central Baptist Theological Seminary in
Minneapolis, Minnesota (ongoing)
* Began broadcasting on Radio Pulpit in 1999, continues to the present.
* Joined a church plant in 2003, planting a church in the Jewish areas
of Johannesburg. became New Covenant Baptist Church, the church I now
pastor full-time.
* Formally ordained to the ministry in 2005.
* Met my wife Erin, an American from Minnesota in 2003, while working
in Pretoria. Erin was here as a short-term missionary.
* Married in 2004. Two children: Jack (4) and Karissa (2) [by June 2010]

Karl Petersen

We were commissioned by a church in Philadelphia USA to mission work in
1995. I had served on pastoral staff of this church for four years
prior to our commissioning. While in Philadelphia I studied theology at
Westminster Theological Seminary. My wife worked as a paediatric and
surgery nurse.

We lived for one year in Portugal before arriving in Mozambique. We
worked in Mozambique for seven years planting two churches, directing a
Bible institute in the city of Maputo and carrying out literature and
conference ministries. The conference work was in coordination with a
Brazilian Reformed publisher called Editora Fiel (www.editorafiel.org).
This is the same conference work in Nampula which Dr. Charles Woodrow
assists (many at Skogheim will know Dr. Woodrow). 2010 will be the 11th
year of this conference.

Due to incessant health problems our family had to move to a higher
altitude and six years ago relocated to Barberton. I continued to
direct the Bible institute and develop the literature and conference
ministries in Mozambique and also took on pastoral responsibilities at
the Barberton Community Baptist Church. Glynn is active with the women
in our fellowship. For the last four years we have organised pastors
conferences in Barberton, the black townships of Nelspruit and in
Manzini, Swaziland in conjunction with the African Pastors' Conference
ministry (www.africanpastorsconference.com).

Our children are Elsa, Cole, Sonia, Lael, Phillemon and Johanna.”

Regarding the costs this year I reported at last year’s conference
that Ingrid would try and keep the costs for 2010 the same. Praise God
that that it has been possible to do this with the exception of the
tariff for Campers. Please look at the registration form for these
details.

At Skogheim a lot of progress has been made to complete the prayer
garden. In addition they now have a full time outdoor specialist who is
able to offer outward bound type courses, should you feel up to it. The
cost will be R 10 per person and there is a spiritual connotation to
this as well. We will arrange for Jono to tell us all about his on the
first morning and then you may decide to apply yourself in this way
during your spare time. A facility will also be available during the
afternoon break and after the answer and question time to watch world
cup football on a big screen. Joyce Anne is very happy to give any plant
enthusiasts a tour on one afternoon to those interested in flora and
fauna.

Please note that there have been changes to the on and off ramps at
Oribi Plaza. Ingrid has sent me an updated map which I attach for your
information.

I ask for your prayerful support for the conference for this year and
list below the matters for which we seek your intercession:-

      * Speakers and their preparation so that the conference may be
anointed and owned by the Lord

      * Attendance – good support in spite of obstacles and difficulties

      * New Attendees - that the Lord will lay it on the hearts of many
        newcomers to attend this year

      * Administration – to grant grace that this work may be done
efficiently and competently to make the conference one of the
        best.

      * Financial needs – that churches and those who are able to give
wholehearted support so that no one who wishes to attend will be
        stopped from doing so

      * Children – that the little ones will be well taken care of and
        nurtured in the Lord

We are pleased to serve you for another year
