Dear Brothers and Sisters, Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are all looking forward to the 40th anniversary conference which will be taking place from 1 July to 6 July 2011. Anniversaries are a good time to reflect on God’s dealings with us and this conference has travelled through many milestones as we have seen the Lord’s most wonderful provision over these 40 years. We can attest of receiving the preached word from the most gifted of men who have graced the stage of reformed teaching. Every year has been a blessing in the quality of the ministry and the fellowship has always been so rich and beneficial. So we can with fondness recall the excellent times we have enjoyed over the years of this conference. We praise GOD for His goodness and faithfulness. What a mighty God we serve. To help us in reflecting on the history of the conference the committee has commissioned Nuni de’ Trust to prepare for us a DVD which has two aims. Firstly to place on video format a record of the developments of this conference and secondly to use the DVD as a marketing tool to introduce the conference to folk who may have heard about it and for some reason have not experienced the spiritual benefit that has accrued to those who have year after year enjoyed from the quality of ministry and fellowship. We are appointing representatives in each of the churches who regularly attend to show the DVD and so display a picture of what “Skogheim” is all about. To facilitate the distribution and marketing the cost of copying the video together with postage will be at the modest cost of R 50 per unit. If anyone would like to help in this marketing exercise please be in touch with us. The DVD content has been uploaded to the ERC website and although it has been compressed (flash format), the video file is fairly large at 94MB (running time 22 minutes) unless you have a fast internet connection. If anyone is keen to acquire an original DVD please let us know and we will gladly arrange for it to be posted to you, otherwise view the promotion on our web page. As we reported last year our main speaker this year from Scotland is David Carmichael. His background is as follows: “David Carmichael is the minister of Abbeygreen Church of Scotland in the village of Lesmahagow where he has faithfully exercised a much respected and productive expository ministry for almost 28 years. In the life of this church he has ensured that prayer and expository preaching have central place. As a result the congregation has enjoyed long years of spiritual stability and blessing from the hand of God. His wider ministry has taken him to conferences in the United Kingdom, Europe and in the USA. He is a founder member of Scotland’s premier, reformed and interdenominational, preaching conference – The Scottish Reformed Conference, which he now serves to good effect as Chairman. Mr. Carmichael also serves as Chairman of the Scottish Council of UFM Worldwide a missionary organisation and as Chairman of Scotland’s largest reformed ministers fraternal. He has been married to his wife Fiona for 32 years and they have two grown up daughters.” Our second and local speaker is Jeff Gage who is a well known local Pastor. Jeff’s CV reads as follows: "Jeffrey Gage serves as the Pastor-Teacher of Free Grace Baptist Church in Boksburg, South Africa. Having pastored for 7 years in the USA, he and his family moved to Boksburg 11 years ago. Jeff’s ministry focuses on expository preaching with a Christo-centric interpretation for the building up and equipping of the saints to serve God in the church and in the world. In addition to pastoring the local congregation, Jeff lectures at the Constantia Park School of the Bible in Pretoria and travels to Zimbabwe twice each year to train pastors associated with the Reformed Baptist Church of Harare. He was also involved in the founding of Sola 5: An Association of God-centred Evangelicals in Southern Africa. Deborah and Jeff have been married for 22 years and have four children – Caleb (20), Joseph (17), Rebecca (16) and Rachel (13)." The opening meeting will be led by Brian DeVries, principal of Mukhanyo Theological College. Regarding the costs this year there are two interesting aspects which have been introduced and which will be a most helpful saving to those who are able to make use of these two new features. The first of these incentives is a “family discount”. This will apply to families who are required to occupy a unit together. For every child beyond the first child a discount of 50% will apply. The savings on this basis can amount to anything from R 500 to R 1000. This incentive is clearly aimed to encourage families to live together. The second incentive is in the new concept of tented accommodation. This facility will provide for 68 beds in tented units made up of 6 x 10 beds (5 bunks) and 4 units of 2 single beds. The cost of this facility will amount to R 1000 per occupant for Adults ; R 950 for scholars and R 500 for children which includes all meals. The folk living in this accommodation will make use of the ablution facilities in the camping area. The other tariffs are:
We direct you this year to make full use of the registration procedures on the webpage which will be found together with the DVD presentation on www.erc.za.org If you do not have access to internet please let me know and I will gladly let you have a set of application forms. The stage is set for a truly blessed and exciting 40th anniversary conference and our prayer is to fill the facility to the rafters, and to achieve this we require your help to promote the conference widely and positively through the means at your disposal. Remember the outdoor facilities with all its challenges are fully operational and after the children’s programme which will again be overseen by Nick and Sheila Court, the children may partake of this extramural activity. The children’s programme covers those from 4 to 12 yrs. I ask for your prayerful support for the conference for this year and list below the matters for which we seek your intercession:-
We are pleased to serve you for another year and look forward to meeting you at this our 40th Anniversary. Matthew and Tina Pieterse Organisers |
